Alice in Wonderland by Tim Burton

There is a place like no place on Earth. A land full of wonder, mystery, and danger! Some say to survive here, you need to be as mad as a hatter...

A Mad Hatter, a White Rabbit, the Red Queen and the lovely Cheshire Cat - that's what I was remembering of Lewis Caroll's book 'Alice in Wonderland'. Now tremendous movie-maker Tim Burton brought it to me in another, in a much more wonderful way.

Sometimes I believe as many as six impossible things before breakfast.

In the new and fabulous 3D-movie 'Alice in Wonderland' by Tim Burton it's not the young 7 year old child Alice following the White Rabbit, no it's the 10 years older, the young lady Alice. Down through the rabbit hole into a wonderful great crazy world. A world where potions ('Drink Me') let you shrink and cakes ('Eat Me') let you grow. A world where animals can talk. A world where the Red Queen's guard are game cards.

Alice in grown up, but she is again meeting her old friends the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp), the Cheshire Cat (voice of Stephen Fry), Tweedledee and Tweedledum (both are played by Matt Lucas), the White Rabbit (voice of Michael Sheen). But she is also seeing the less lovely beings again, like the merciless Red Queen (Helena Bonham-Carter - with a wonderful big blown-up head) and the Knave of Hearts (Crispin Glover).

Alice Kingsleigh is on an adventure after she talked to the Blue Caterpillar Absolem (Alan Rickman's soothing voice) to help the Red Queens sister, the White Queen (Anne Hathaway), to get her sword back. The Oraculum, a Calendarical Compendium of Underland, is telling about a fight at Frabjous Day. 'Frabjous being the day you slay the Jabberwocky.' the White Rabbit was telling Alice.

One! There's a potion that can make you shrink.

Two! And a cake that can make you grow.

Three! Animals can talk.

Four! Cats can disappear.

Fife! There is a place called Wonderland.

Six! I can slay a Jabberwocky!

Honestly - young Australian actress Mia Wasikowska is a rising star and I guess we'll see her more often in the future. Tim Burton did (once again) an amazing job in casting actors and voices. They are ALL perfect! Also his love to details are (yes, also once again) wonderful - from the beautiful and adorable costumes, to the details in the Red Queens kingdom - everything is very hearty (even the platform where the heads have to go off) and red, to the White Queens kingdom - everything is white and everybody is acting so overdoing happy (especially Anne Hathaway is so ... 'brainless' and happy), to the CGI and last but not least the quotes 'Off with her head!'.

Okay, the last scene - the fight on Frabjous Day (on a big chess-field - how great is that!?!) - reminded me a little bit of the Maid of Orléans is going to fight the Balrog ... but it was not disturbing - it was great, I love it! And by the way, Jabberwocky got his voice from the one and only Christopher Lee!

'Hatter ... why is a raven like a writing desk?' - 'I haven't the slightest idea. Fairfarren, Alice.'

Without any question 'Alice in Wonderland' is one of Tim Burton's best movies. It's a mix between sweetness, lovely horror and crazyness with a little bit of gothic. And I need to see it more than once again.
